Chlorine Disinfection for Well Water
In the event that your water sample fails, what should you do? Prairie State Water technicians are properly trained to disinfect well water if it has a high level of coliform, e. coli bacteria, or nitrates. Well Chlorination is a common method used to disinfect private water supplies and return them to a level that is safe to use and drink.
Chlorine disinfection is effective against most pathogenic bacteria. Once chlorine is placed in the well system it will need to sit a minimum of 6-8 hours or up to 24-hours. The water supply may NOT be used during this recommended time. Once this is complete it will take about an hour to flush the water system and ensure all the chlorine is gone and the water is running clean. Finally, a new water sample will be taken and sent to a laboratory to be retested.
